Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar holds interactive session with country diaspora in Kenya

INDIA’S External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday (13) held an online interaction with a cross section of the Indian diaspora in Kenya where is on a three-day visit. Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Dr Virender Paul said Jaishankar held a productive online interaction with the Indian diaspora. Kenya has around 80,000 people of Indian origin, including an estimated 20,000 citizens. This community serves an important bridge between the two countries.

On Saturday (12), Jaishankar said on arriving in Nairobi that he was delighted to be back in Kenya and thanked his Kenyan counterpart Raychelle Omamo for her welcome and hospitality. “Delighted to be back in Kenya. Thank FM Raychelle Omamo for her gracious welcome and hospitality. A productive discussion on our bilateral cooperation that we will be taking forward through the Joint Commission,” The Indian diplomat said in a twitter post.

Recalling the evolution of India-Kenya relations from a historical solidarity to a modern partnership as it is today, Jaishankar also looked forward to have a detailed exchange on regional and global issues as befitting the two countries both of which are currently among the 10 non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Kenya recently sent India 12 tons of food products as part of Covid-19 relief efforts.

On Monday (14), the Indian minister held a ministerial roundtable meeting with Kenyan ministers wherein they discussed building a comprehensive partnership between the two countries. He also called on Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and discussed bilateral cooperation and defence partnership.
