In-form England batter Harry Brook was on Friday (23) signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the auction for the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
A bidding war was initially witnessed between Royals Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which feature ace India batter Virat Kohli, and Rajasthan Royals (RR) over Brook with the SRH joining soon. The contest then turned out into one between the RR and SRH with both franchises raising the paddle. Eventually, Hyderabad bought the 23-year-old batter from Yorkshire for Rs 13.25 crore (£1.32 million) as RR dropped out.
The 23-year-old, who will become the part of the cash-rich T20 tournament for the first time this year, recently slammed three hundreds in as many Tests in Pakistan to help his team win a historic series 3-0. He was adjudged player of the match in two games as well as the player of the series.
Brook, who has played four Tests and 20 T20s for England after making his international debut this year, has a strike rate of 137 plus in the shortest format. In overall T20s, he has a strike rate of above 148 with one century.
He was also part of the England squad that won the T20 World Cup in Australia in November.
England Test captain Ben Stokes and ace all-rounder Sam Curran also went under the hammer at the auction on Friday.
