J&K infiltration, terror strikes went down significantly since 2018: Government

INCIDENTS of infiltration and terror strikes have gone down significantly in Jammu and Kashmir since 2018, India’s minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai told Rajya Sabha, the upper chamber of the Indian parliament, on Wednesday (1).

The winter session of the parliament kicked off on Monday (29).

In a written reply, the minister shared data related to the details of estimated net infiltrations and terror incidents since 2018. He said that 28 instances of infiltration were reported till October 31 this year while it was 51 in 2020, 141 in 2017 and 143 in 2018.

The data also showed that 200 terrorist incidents were recorded till November 21 this year while it 244 in the last year, 255 in 2019 and 417 in 2018.

As per the data that the minister revealed, 251 incidents of terror were reported in Jammu and Kashmir between October 2020 and October 2021.

Of them, 37 cases were reported in October this year followed by 14 in September, 36 in August, 26 in July, 22 in June, 13 in May, 12 in April, 11 in March, seven in February and eight in January, Asian News International reported.

A total of 28 terrorist incidents were reported in December last year as against 15 in November and 22 in October.

The data also said that between October 2020 and 2021, the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir suffered 51 casualties. Thirty-two of them have been mentioned as martyrs of different security forces and 19 of the state police force.

Between December 2020 and November 26 this year, 14 terrorists have been apprehended while 165 have been eliminated.

The minister’s response came after senior Indian National Congress leader and former central minister Anand Sharma asked “whether it is a fact that there is a rise in the incidents of Infiltration and terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir” and the “number of terror attacks during October 2020-October 2021”.

Sharma also asked about the number of “casualties suffered by Paramilitary forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police” and “the number of terrorists apprehended and killed during the last twelve months”.
