Policemen generally run after culprits but Lancaster remained witness to a strange chase this week as the local cops were seen going after a goat that escaped and the chase was such a long story that it even caused traffic chaos.

Yes you read it right.

It all happened when some people over the weekend reported seeing the goat on the loose in the Bowerham area.

Officers soon arrived and chased the animal through Bowerham on Sunday (14) and they succeeded in capturing it on Wyresdale Road near Williamson Park, where the Highest Point Festival was being held, Lancaster’s Beyond Radio reported. They also named it Houdini.

The goat was earlier seen in places such as the Lancaster Auction Mart car park and on Quernmore Road near the cemetery, the report added.

The police were relieved to accomplish their mission. A post on the Lancaster Area Police Facebook page said, “After a lengthy pursuit through Bowerham and down to Wyresdale Road, causing traffic chaos, we are relieved to say we caught the evasive goat who we have affectionately named Houdini!”

“He got a few butts in but it’s safely away to the wonderfully amazing Wolfwood (animal rescue centre in Lancaster).

“Humongous thanks to them and to the equally fab gent at The Ashton for transporting Houdini safely.

“Other than being scared, our new friend seems well and unhurt.”

Beyond Radio asked Lancaster Police to know more details about where the goat escaped from.

Recently, the police in New Jersey, US, posted on Facebook that they were searching for a “peeping goat” in Chatham Township. The animal was seen wandering around the township and peering into homes.

Cops from Chatham Township Police urged residents not to capture the animal if they see it and call the police if it turned up at their doors.
