- Netflix has already pre-ordered a second season of the new Peaky Blinders series
- Creator Steven Knight says the first season is already “in the can”
- The new series will expand the story beyond the original Shelby era
Peaky Blinders fans have received a major update about the franchise's future, even though the new sequel series has yet to premiere.
Netflix has already pre-ordered a second season of Peaky Blinders: The New Generation, according to creator and writer Steven Knight.
Knight revealed the news while appearing on the Zoe Ball in the Afternoon podcast, where he also confirmed that the first season is already complete.
“Peaky [Blinders]: The New Generation, I guess you can call it, is already in the can,” Knight said. “It is so good. I mean, I would say that, wouldn’t I? But it is really, really good.”
Netflix is already looking beyond season one
The decision to pre-order another season is a strong sign of Netflix's confidence in the next chapter of the franchise.
The original Peaky Blinders became a global hit after beginning as a BBC Two drama before finding a much larger international audience on Netflix. The series ran for six seasons and was followed by the 2025 film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which continued the story.
The sequel series is now set to take the franchise into a new generation, rather than simply continuing the original series in the same form.
Knight has also suggested that the Peaky Blinders universe could continue to expand beyond the initial sequel series, opening the door to more stories in the future.
Steven Knight still remembers when nobody knew if it would work
The creator admitted that he still finds the franchise's transformation difficult to process.
When Peaky Blinders first launched on BBC Two, Knight recalled people questioning whether a period drama about gangsters from 1920s Birmingham would connect with audiences.
Even Cillian Murphy and the late Benjamin Zephaniah reportedly wondered during the first few days of filming whether the show would work.
That changed dramatically as the series developed a worldwide following.
Knight recalled realizing just how far Peaky Blinders had traveled when Snoop Dogg's agent contacted him and said the rapper wanted to meet.
Knight said he and Snoop spent three hours discussing how the series reminded the rapper of his own experiences around gang culture.
The unexpected encounter is another example of how far the franchise has moved beyond its original BBC Two beginnings.
Now, with the first season of The New Generation already completed and a second season reportedly pre-ordered, Netflix appears to be betting that the Peaky Blinders story still has plenty of life left in it.
