FORMER Indian National Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday (29) left the parliament after the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the national legislature, was adjourned till 12 noon local time following sloganeering by the members of the opposition against the Narendra Modi government.

Monday was the opening day of the winter session of the parliament.

But the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon soon after the session commenced as the opposition started sloganeering. Along with Rahul, his mother and interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi staged a protest in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside the parliament premises demanding repeal of three contentious farm laws.

The Rajya Sabha or the upper house was also adjourned till 12.19 pm.

The Modi government was likely to repeal the three ‘Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021’ in the Rajya Sabha after it was passed in the Lok Sabha.

The three ‘Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021’ was circulated among Rajya Sabha members on Friday (26).

Modi announced on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti November 19 that the three farm laws would be repealed and apologised to the countrymen saying his government failed to convince the farmers about the laws and urged the protesting peasants to return home.

The government indicated last week that the bill to repeal the three farm laws will also be taken up on priority. The bill was cleared by the Union cabinet last week.

Govt ready to answer all questions: Modi

On Monday, Modi said his government is ready to answer all questions during the winter session of the parliament.

“Our government is ready to answer all questions during the Winter Session of the Parliament. We should debate in the Parliament, and maintain the decorum of the proceedings,” he said while addressing media persons ahead of the beginning of the winter session.

The prime minister also called for a constructive and productive winter session of the parliament and said that there should be debate as well as peace.

“This is an important session of the parliament. The citizens of the country want a productive session. They are fulfilling their responsibilities for a brighter future. The session should be constructive. The benchmark should be constructive. There should be debate as well as peace,” he said.
