Capcom has pulled back the curtain on Resident Evil 9, now titled Resident Evil Requiem, at Summer Game Fest 2025. The highly anticipated next chapter in the legendary survival horror franchise is set to release on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The reveal came with a cinematic trailer that immediately captured the attention of fans worldwide. The footage hints at a devastated Raccoon City—famously destroyed at the end of Resident Evil 3—suggesting the possibility of an open-world design for the first time in the series.
The trailer also features haunting shots of the ruined Raccoon City Police Department, setting a chilling tone for what’s to come.
Host Geoff Keighley described Resident Evil Requiem as a “bold shift for the franchise both in tone and gameplay,” promising high-stakes cinematic action layered atop the series’ signature survival horror. Capcom’s official blurb teases “technological advancements” and “a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.”
A major point of intrigue is the introduction of a new protagonist: FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft. The trailer reveals Grace investigating a string of mysterious deaths and being ordered to revisit the scene of her mother’s murder—a journey that will force her to confront her darkest fears.
In a tense moment, Grace is shown strapped to a gurney as a mysterious figure intones, “I know now that you’re the one that I’ve been searching for... special one. Chosen one.” This cryptic message has sparked speculation about Grace’s role and whether other iconic Resident Evil characters, such as Leon Kennedy, will appear or be playable.
While Capcom’s website remains tight-lipped about further plot and character details, it emphasizes that Resident Evil Requiem will deliver a “heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.” The game promises to blend cutting-edge technology with the development team’s extensive experience to usher in a new era of survival horror.
The announcement comes after months of speculation and teasers from Capcom, including hints dropped during last year’s summer showcase and celebrations marking 10 million players for the Resident Evil 4 Remake. That remake, released in 2023, received critical acclaim and set a high bar for the franchise’s future.
With its February 2026 launch date, Resident Evil 9: Requiem is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the year, promising an immersive, terrifying journey for both longtime fans and newcomers.
