INDIA T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday (14) slammed a century in just 56 balls in the third and final match of the series against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
It was the swashbuckling batter's fourth ton in the format which saw him equalling compatriot Rohit Sharma and Australia's Glenn Maxwell with the most number of T20 hundreds but he achieved the feat in much less number of innings than the other two batters.
Yadav, who came out to bat at No.4 with India placed at 29 for 2, hit eight sixes and seven fours and added 112 runs with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (60 off 41) for the third wicket. The partnership helped India put up a score of 201 for 7 in 20 overs.
It was only in the last match that Yadav, who is also called SKY, became the fastest batter to complete 2,000 runs in T20s, bettering former Australia cricketer Aaron Finch's record.
On Wednesday (13), Yadav secured the top position in ICC Men's T20 Batter Rankings following his brisk fifty against South Africa in the second T20 in Gqeberha. South Africa won the rain-curtailed game by five wickets. The first match in Durban was washed out.
Earlier, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj bagged the wickets of Shubman Gill (12) and Tilak Varma (0) in consecutive deliveries to give the visitors a scare. They lost four wickets in the last two overs with pacer Lizaad Williams taking two wickets.
