LEADERS and governments can only set up frameworks and provide platforms but it is up to the businesses to take advantage of the opportunities at the end of the day, Indian commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said at the India Global Forum (IGF), the UAE edition, in Dubai on Monday (13). He also added that the next decade is going to be a defining decade in the India-UAE relationship.

Addressing the two-day event on the inaugural day, Goyal said he has witnessed opportunities being created at the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020.

“I am very confident that businesses from both sides will take this opportunity and that people-to-people connect is only going to get strengthened. The next decade is going to be a defining decade in the India-UAE relationship so we should work in the spirit of partnership and let the industry, academic and government all work in this spirit of partnership to strengthen this bond of friendship and make it a truly defining and strategic partnership,” he said.

Besides Goyal, the IGF, which has seen top policymakers and business leaders gathering to discuss tech innovation, expansion of regional partnerships, growth frontiers and global concerns over climate change, also saw the presence of Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India’s minister for skill development and entrepreneurship and electronics and information technology and Mansukh Mandaviya, the country’s health and family welfare minister.

The event also saw participation of a number of top ministers from the UAE and the country’s ambassador in New Delhi.

This is the first Middle East edition of IGF.
