9 iconic Bollywood jodis fans are still begging filmmakers to reunite

Some of these pairs are actually getting their wish soon. Others remain stuck firmly in fan-fiction territory. Here's where each stands — and why fans still won't let go.

9 iconic Bollywood jodis fans are still begging filmmakers to reunite

Long after a film wraps, long after actors move on to entirely different co-stars, there are pairings that fans simply never stopped rooting for

India Weekly

Highlights:

  • Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor are reportedly reuniting for a new Ayan Mukerji film, a decade after Tamasha
  • Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone haven't shared a screen since Jawan in 2023, but King could change that in 2026
  • Kajol said in a 2025 interview she'd "love" another romantic film with Shah Rukh Khan if the right script comes along
  • Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor remain one of Bollywood's most-requested reunions despite being a real-life ex-couple
  • Not every jodi on this list is close to happening — some exist purely because fans refuse to stop asking

Bollywood fans have a long memory for chemistry. Long after a film wraps, long after actors move on to entirely different co-stars, there are pairings that fans simply never stopped rooting for. A couple of these aren't rumors anymore — they're actually back on a call sheet. A few more are being quietly dangled in front of fans without being fully confirmed. And then there are the ones that exist purely because audiences have refused to stop asking, confirmation or not.

Reunions that are already locked in

1. Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor

This is the one fans have waited longest for, and it finally looks real. Deepika and Ranbir have shared the screen three times — Bachna Ae Haseeno, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Tamasha — and haven't worked together since 2015. That's set to change with a reported fourth collaboration under Ayan Mukerji, a contemporary take on the 1956 Raj Kapoor classic Chori Chori, produced under the revived RK banner. The demand never really went away either — a fan's viral plea asking directors to "just cast them together and see what happens" got a like from Deepika herself, which fans immediately took as a sign.

2. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone

The two haven't appeared together since Jawan in 2023, which, by SRK-Deepika standards, counts as a long gap. That's reportedly ending with Siddharth Anand's King in 2026, where the two will share the screen again after what fans have been counting down as nearly three years apart.

3. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol

Seven films, three decades, and still the gold standard of Bollywood on-screen pairs. SRK and Kajol haven't shared a screen since Dilwale in 2015, though they've given fans plenty of consolation — including a widely replayed reunion moment at the 2025 Filmfare Awards, where SRK recreated the DDLJ rose scene with her live on stage. In a 2025 interview, Kajol didn't rule out one more romantic film either, saying she'd "love" to do it and telling fans to go ahead and suggest it to Shah Rukh directly if they got the chance.

4. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt

Three films in — Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Kalank — and fans have never stopped asking for a follow-up, particularly a third Dulhania film to close out the franchise. Their easy, bickering chemistry in the first two made them one of the more naturally funny jodis of their generation, which is exactly why Kalank's more serious tone left fans wanting the lighter version back.

5. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor

Jab We Met turned this real-life ex-couple into one of the most quoted romantic pairings in Hindi cinema, and nearly two decades later, fans still bring it up every time either actor signs a new project. The fact that they dated before making the film only adds to why audiences never fully let go of wanting them back together, awkward history or not.

6. Aamir Khan and Kajol

Just one film together — Fanaa, in 2006 — but it was enough to make fans wonder what a second collaboration might look like. Both actors are famously selective about their projects, which is part of why a reunion has never materialized, but it's also exactly why fans keep the request alive: with these two, even a single film felt like an event.

7. Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra

Krrish and Agneepath gave fans two very different versions of this pairing — one a superhero romance, the other a gritty revenge drama — and both worked. Dil Dhadakne Do reunited them in an ensemble setting rather than as a central couple, which is exactly why fans still want one more film that puts the two of them front and center again.

8. Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar

Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, and Sonchiriya made this one of the more unconventional jodis on this list — neither actor fits the typical glamorous Bollywood lead mold, and that's precisely their appeal. Fans who grew up on their earlier, more grounded films have been asking for a fourth outing for years now, especially as both actors have since branched into very different kinds of roles.

9. Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani

A newer entry on this list, but no less demanded. Between a segment in Lust Stories, Guest iin London, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kartik and Kiara built a quick, easy chemistry that resonated with a younger generation of moviegoers. With both actors now headlining different franchises, fans have been vocal about wanting the duo back together for something that isn't a horror-comedy this time.
