AMAZON India on Tuesday (6) announced the decision to launch two all-women delivery stations in the South Indian state of Kerala. The stations are located in the towns of Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district and Kodungallur in Thrissur district of the state and operated by the delivery service partner (DSP) programme which extends job opportunities to women in the region.

In a statement, Amazon India said the launch of the all-women delivery stations was consistent with its efforts to increase opportunities for women in the logistics sector while strengthening its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The statement added that the company already has two all-women delivery stations in Chennai in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu and Kadi in the state of Gujarat.

The DSP programme is a last-mile delivery model where Amazon India partners small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) to deliver packages to Amazon customers. For many partners, this programme is their maiden entrepreneurial venture. They utilise their local knowledge of the community and the technological support that Amazon India offers to fulfil delivery promises made to customers.

The Kerala stations help in growth and work opportunities
The launch of the new stations in Kerala not only helps Amazon India to penetrate more areas in and around them but also provide growth and work opportunities for the delivery service partners and the associates they hire.

The statement said that these stations are completely managed and run by women across managerial and delivery associate roles and all associates are given training across various aspects, including customer service, handling packages, technology and safety.

The company has also introduced several measures to ensure a safe workplace for women by creating awareness and setting up various feedback mechanisms, besides a dedicated helpline number created for the associates to seek any help or support.

Prakash Rochlani, Director, Last Mile Operations, Amazon India, said, “We have thousands of women who are playing important roles in our operations network and thriving in their professional lives with Amazon.”

“The launch of these two all-women delivery stations in Kerala is an extension of our continuous efforts to provide women with safe and fulfilling opportunities and we remain steadfast in our resolve to financially uplift them.”

Maya Vinod, a woman delivery associate from the all-women delivery station in Aranmula, said the work of a delivery associate has made her independent. “I am grateful to set an example for other women and showing them that they, too, can achieve their dreams,” she said.

Besides the all-women delivery stations, the company also has centres that are run and managed by transgender individuals and silent delivery stations in Mumbai that have provided opportunities to people with hearing impairments. Amazon India has also created opportunities for military veterans across its operations network, enabling them to create alternate career opportunities.
