Maitreyi Ramakrishnan dances into Netflix’s ‘Best of the Best’; first look sets the stage for a high-stakes Bollywood-fusion battle

Netflix has unveiled the first look of Best of the Best, a coming-of-age dance comedy starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia, where friendship, ambition and fierce collegiate Bollywood-fusion competition collide ahead of its September 18 premiere.

Streaming giant ‘Netflix’ unveiled the first look of its upcoming coming-of-age dance comedy ‘Best of the Best’, headlined by ‘Never Have I Ever’ star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia. Directed by Lena Khan, the movie is set in the competitive world of collegiate Bollywood-fusion dance in the US. It will premiere on the streamer on September 18.

Written by Prashanth Venkataramanujam and comedian Hasan Minhaj, ‘Best of the Best’ follows childhood friends Maya (Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Kedia), who join UCLA’s Bollywood-fusion dance team with dreams of winning the US Championship, according to the official logline. Their friendship, however, is put to the test as they navigate fierce competition, ambition and the pressures of chasing the coveted title.


The ensemble cast also includes Ankur Rathee, Janina Gavankar, Chaneil Kular, Becky Alex, Shreya Navile, Minhaj, Lilly Singh, Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, Saara Chaudry and Sasha Bhasin. Khan’s previous credits include ‘The Tiger Hunter’ and episodes of Never Have I Ever.

Venkataramanujam and Minhaj have co-written the screenplay and are also producing the film, with Jonathan Eirich producing for ‘Rideback’. Ramakrishnan rose to fame with the ‘Netflix’ series ‘Never Have I Ever’, created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, while Kedia makes one of her biggest screen appearances with the film.
