Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel could face further punishment from the Football Association (FA) after saying referee Anthony Taylor should face consequences for his performance during his team's frustrating 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday (14).
Tuchel, who was sent off at the end of the bad-tempered game, said the entire Chelsea dressing room had an issue with Taylor. “I cannot coach but the referee can whistle the next game?” he asked.
Harry Kane's equaliser for the Hotspur in the injury time did not impress Tuchel who felt it was awarded unfairly with Marc Cucurella's hair appearing to be dragged by Cristian Romero.
Tuchel was sent off after the final whistle after gripping his Hotspur counterpart Antonio Conte's hand. The two then squared up and ended up seeing the red card. The duo had previously clashed after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored in the second half that put Hotspur 2-1 ahead but Tuchel felt his team's Kai Havertz was fouled before the goal.
When Tuchel was asked whether he had a problem with Taylor, he said: “Today? Absolutely.”
When told that some Chelsea supporters were unhappy with Taylor’s decisions against Chelsea in the past, Tuchel said: “I don’t think just some of the fans think that. I can assure you the whole dressing room of us, every single person, thinks that.
“I can’t understand how the first goal is not offside and I can’t understand when a player is pulled by their hair, the other player stays on the pitch.
“Pull someone else’s hair, stay on the pitch and attack the last corner. This is for me without any explanation and I don’t want to accept it. Both goals should not stand and it’s a fair result because we were brilliant, deserved to win. This is my point of view.”
He finished the post-match press conference by exclaiming: “I cannot coach but the referee can whistle the next game?”
Tuchel is already facing a touchline ban for the red card and could also mee further action from the FA.
