India had a number of moments to cheer on Day 8 (30) of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics as chances to add to the country's medal tally got better. However, there were also some disappointing news, like the loss of ace archer Deepika Kumari in the quarterfinal.

Here is a look at India's results at Tokyo on Friday:
In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain beat Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei 4-1 to enter the semifinals of the Women's Welter (64-69 kilograms) and this win assured her at least a bronze medal. However, another Indian boxer Simranjit Kaur lost 0-5 to Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand in the round of 16 in women's light (57-60).
In badminton, PV Sindhu defeated Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20 in the women's singles quarterfinals.

In hockey, the women's team beat Ireland 1-0 in Pool A to remain in the race for a quarterfinal berth. In men's hockey, India beat Japan 5-3 to make the quarter-finals as the second team from Pool A.

In shooting, Rahi Sarnobat and Manu Bhaker failed to qualify for the final in the 25-metre pistol women's qualification rapid.
In archery (women's Individual 1/8 eliminations), Deepika Kumari won via shootoff against Ksenia Perova of the Russian Olympic Committee to make the quarters but lost 0-6 to Korea's An San.
In athletics, Avinash Mukund Sable finished seventh with a new national record but couldn't directly qualify for the final. He took part in men's 3000 metre Steeplechase round 1 -- Heat 1. Also in athletics, MP Jabir finished last in men's 400 metre Hurdles Round 1-- Heat 5 by clocking 50.77 seconds. Dutee Chand also disappointed in the women's 100 metre Round 1 -- Heat 1 as she missed out on semis with a timing of 11.54.
In 4X400 metre Relay Mixed Round 1 -- Heat 2, Revathy Veeramani, Subha Venkatesan, Alex Antony and Sarthak Bhambri failed to qualify for teh final after finishing 8th and last in Heat 2.
In sailing, Nethra Kumanan finished 37th in Race 09 and 38th in Race 10 in women's One Person Dinghy -- Laser Radial. In the men's Skiff -- 49er -- Race 07 -- Ganapathy Kelapanda and Varun Thakkar finished 17th in Race 07, 11th in Race 08 and 16th in Race 09.
In equestrian, Fouaad Mirza finished seventh in Eventing Dressage Team and Individual Day 1.
In golf, Anirban Lahiri was tied 20 with score 4 under 67 in men's Individual Stroke Play Round 2. In men's Individual Stroke Play Round 2, Udayan Mane tied 57 with score 3 under 145.
