Delhi Capitals (DC) reached the final of the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) with a five-wicket win over UP Warriorz at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (21).
Teenage England cricketer Alice Capsey's all-round show with the ball (three wickets for 26 runs) and bat (34 runs) helped Delhi reach the target of 139 with just over two overs to spare.
Warriorz will now play against Mumbai Indians in the eliminator at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Friday (24). The winner of that game will meet DC in the final at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday (26).
Both Mumbai and Delhi finished on 12 points but the latter's superior run-rate ensured them a spot at the top of the table. Mumbai had an opportunity to top the table but the slow win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in their earlier match in which they took 16.3 overs to overhaul the target of 126 dented their chances to better the net run-rate.
