Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey will make history with its first-ever premiere in India, as Mumbai has been selected as an official stop on the film’s global promotional tour.

Universal Pictures International announced that Nolan will attend the Mumbai premiere in July, marking the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s first visit to India for a film launch. He will be joined by cast members Matt Damon and Tom Holland, along with Oscar-winning producer Emma Thomas.

The event places Mumbai among a select group of major international premiere destinations, including London, Paris, and New York. The premiere is scheduled to take place at PVR Icon IMAX at Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai ahead of the film’s worldwide theatrical release on July 17.

Written and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey is based on Homer’s classic epic poem and follows the legendary Greek hero Odysseus on his long and dangerous journey home after the fall of Troy. The story, considered one of the greatest works of ancient literature, is being brought to the screen through Nolan’s signature large-scale filmmaking style.

The film marks Nolan’s first project since the massive success of Oppenheimer, which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The filmmaker is widely regarded as one of the most influential directors working in cinema today, and anticipation for his latest project has been building steadily since its announcement.

The Odyssey is also being promoted as a groundbreaking achievement in filmmaking technology. According to the studio, the movie was shot entirely using IMAX cameras equipped with newly developed technology. It is being described as the first feature film ever captured completely in the IMAX format, a milestone that is expected to deliver an immersive viewing experience for audiences.

The film features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. Nolan and Emma Thomas are producing the project through their production company, Syncopy.

The decision to hold a premiere in Mumbai highlights the growing importance of the Indian market for major Hollywood releases. The event is expected to be one of the biggest international film premieres ever hosted in the country, drawing significant attention from fans and the film industry alike.

Advance bookings for IMAX screenings of The Odyssey have already opened across India, reflecting strong excitement among moviegoers eager to see Nolan’s latest cinematic spectacle on the big screen.

With Nolan, his cast, and producers set to attend, the Mumbai premiere is shaping up to be a landmark moment for both Indian audiences and Hollywood’s relationship with one of the world’s largest movie markets.
