INDIA carried forward their good show in the T20 international series against England into the one-day international series by thrashing the Three Lions by 10 wickets in the first match at the Oval on Tuesday (12).
Nothing went wrong for the visitors in the game that lasted less than 44 overs in all. Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the hosts led by Jos Buttler to bat first. A fiery bowling performance by India's opening seamers Mohammed Shami (3 for 31) and Jasprit Bumrah (6 for 19) saw India skittling out the world champions in the format for a paltry 110 runs in 25.2 overs. The star-studded England batting line-up never looked in shape and Buttler was the highest scorer with 30 runs off 32 deliveries.

Chasing the modest target, India never had any problem as established opening pair Rohit (76 not out) and Shikhar Dhawan (31 not out) drove them home in less than 19 overs to register India's first-ever 10-wicket victory over England in this format. It was India's seventh 10-wicket victory in one-day internationals and the first since 2016 when they beat Zimbabwe.

Bumrah, who picked his career-best figures in the format, was adjudged the player of the match.
The two teams will play the second match at Lord's on Thursday (14).
