INDIAN indigenous mobile devices company Lava International has planned to bring out its first 5G smartphone, which will be priced below Rs 20,000 ($270) each around the festival of Diwali, a senior company official has said.

The company is also looking at up to 20 per cent share in the mobile accessories segment in the next two-three years, Sunil Raina, president and business head of Lava International told PTI.

“We are focused on some $200 (about Rs 15,000) segment as a company when it comes to smartphones. In that segment, one is 4G, which is a continuation of what we are currently doing and then we are also working on a 5G product. We will also have 5G coming up definitely before Diwali or around Diwali, so 5G smartphones are also in the works,” he added.

Lava International has facilities in India that both work on product design and manufacturing.

“We are completing this entire portfolio by adding the accessories portfolio as well,” Raina said.

In May, Lava announced that it was making forays in wireless accessories segment with the launch of ‘Lava Probuds’ which it indigenously developed using Mediatek Airoha chipsets.

“We use one of the best chipsets that the industry can offer, Mediatek Airoha. It’s highly reliable and one of the best chipsets that we can get in the TWS products,” Raina said, adding, “One of the cornerstones of Lava’s initiative of doing the entire manufacturing in-house, doing the entire design in-house. Our dependence on the Chinese ecosystem has completely dropped, now we are seeing a huge change in the quality and experience of all kinds of products that we have made.”

The top official said there are only three to four significant active players in the mobile-accessories segment and Lava will become one of them and get 15-20 per cent of the market share in the next two-three years.

Raina said the company also has plans to expand its smartwatch portfolio during the festive season due in a few months.
