PARTHA CHATTERJEE, a leader of India's Trinamool Congress (TMC), one of the country's major opposition parties, who was arrested on Saturday (23) by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a teacher recruitment scam in the eastern city of Kolkata, has a luxury flat exclusively for his pet dogs.
The investigative agency last week uncovered many disproportionate assets of Chatterjee since his arrest and among them are three flats in Diamond City of the state of West Bengal. One of them, which is a fully air-conditioned one, is for the dogs of Chatterjee, who has been a top minister of the state and is known for his love for canines.
Chatterjee's arrest came after cash worth Rs 21 crore (£2.1 million) and jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore (£104,227) were recovered from a posh residence of Arpita Mukherjee, known to be a close aide of the former.
The arrested leader was taken to a top hospital in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Bengal's neighbouring state of Odisha, where he was shifted in an air ambulance following the order of a court in Kolkata.
