India’s new Covid-19 infections lowest since March 31

INDIA on Monday (14) reported 70,421 new Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, the lowest since March 31, data from the health ministry showed.

The South Asian country’s total Covid-19 case load now stands at 29.51 million, while total fatalities are at 374,305, the data showed. India also added 3,921 deaths overnight.

The active cases fell below one million after over two months, according to the ministry. Recoveries outnumbered daily new cases for over a month in the country.

The case fatality rate has increased to 1.27 per cent. The national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 95.43 per cent.

A net decline of 53,001 cases has been recorded in the past day.

As many as 1,492,152 Covid-19 tests were conducted on Sunday (13), taking the total number of such examinations in the country so far to 379,624,626. It has stayed below 10 per cent for 21 consecutive days, the ministry said.

The weekly positivity rate has also reduced and stands at 4.54 per cent.

Cumulatively, 254,849,301 CovidD-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

The 3,921 new fatalities include 2,771 from Maharashtra, 267 from Tamil Nadu, 206 from Kerala and 125 from Karnataka.

The ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
