A video of a woman from Kerala delivering a powerful response to a joke made on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, has gone viral, resonating strongly on social media. The clip emerged after comedian Jaspreet Singh, a judge on the show, mockingly said, “Kerala, saar... 100% literacy saar,” while exaggerating a Malayali accent. His remark was directed at a contestant from Kerala who stated she had no political leanings and did not vote.
The woman, in a now-viral video, passionately defended Kerala’s literacy and cultural progress, stating:
"We have 100% literacy, that’s why we cast our vote thoughtfully."
"We are 100% literate, which is why we make good movies like Kumbalangi Nights."
"We have 100% literacy, that’s why Hindus, Christians, and Muslims live in harmony."
"We are 100% literate, that’s why the Kerala model is famous."
"We have 100% literacy, that’s why we respect and advocate for all genders."
"We are 100% literate, that’s why we speak out against the government if needed."
"Last but not least, we have 100% literacy, that’s why Kerala is known as God’s Own Country."
Her words struck a chord with netizens, leading to widespread praise for her articulate response. Social media erupted with criticism against the show, with Malayalis highlighting Kerala’s superior civic sense, leading film industry, and progressive policies.
One user tweeted, “Kerala: where 100% literacy meets 200% common sense. Let’s break free from stereotypes and embrace true cultural pride.”
This controversy adds to the backlash faced by India’s Got Latent, especially after Ranveer Allahbadia’s recent controversial remarks.
