Madhav Tiwari made a strong impression during the Indian Premier League 2026 after taking an important wicket for the Delhi Capitals against the Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on Monday (11).
The 21-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder was included in Delhi Capitals’ playing XI for the crucial match. The team made five changes for the must-win game, and Madhav grabbed attention immediately with the wicket of Priyansh Arya.
Bowling his first over of the IPL 2026 season, Madhav looked calm and confident against the aggressive batter.
He first bowled a sharp short delivery that surprised Arya. The Punjab Kings batter answered by hitting the next ball over extra cover for four runs.
However, Madhav quickly fought back. He bowled another short ball on a tighter line, forcing Arya into a mistimed shot. The batter sliced the ball toward deep cover, where Sahil Parakh completed the catch safely.
The wicket became Madhav Tiwari’s first in the IPL. Arya was dismissed after scoring 56 runs from 33 balls. His innings included two fours and six sixes.
Born on September 28, 2003, in Mauganj village in Madhya Pradesh, Madhav Tiwari is considered one of the state’s rising pace-bowling all-rounders. Even though he has not yet played senior domestic cricket, he earned an IPL contract after performing well in youth and franchise tournaments.
Delhi Capitals bought Madhav for $41,983 during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The franchise later retained him for the 2026 season.
He made his IPL debut in 2025 against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. In that match, he scored three runs while batting at number eight before getting out to Jasprit Bumrah. He did not get a chance to bowl in the game.
Madhav has represented Madhya Pradesh at the Under-19 and Under-23 levels. He also played in the 2024-25 CK Nayudu Trophy and impressed with two half-centuries. One of his best performances came against Mumbai, where he scored 83 runs while Madhya Pradesh struggled at 183 for 6 while following on.
The youngster also played for Bhopal Leopards in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League. He shared the team with Aniket Verma, while Arshad Khan captained the side. Known for his fast bowling and aggressive batting, Madhav enjoyed a successful season in the league.
He scored 108 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 180. One of his best knocks came in the semifinal against Rewa Jaguars, where he smashed 65 runs from just 31 balls and helped Bhopal Leopards reach the final.
Although Madhav Tiwari is yet to make his First-Class or List-A debut, his performance against the Punjab Kings has already brought him into the spotlight as one of the Delhi Capitals’ promising young players.
