New Gujarat facility marks major expansion

Mallcom India Limited has strengthened its manufacturing footprint with the launch of a new personal protective equipment (PPE) facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

The company has invested more than Rs 100 crore ($10.47 million) in the project, which becomes its 17th manufacturing unit. The facility currently employs more than 200 people, including direct and indirect workers, with plans to increase the workforce to over 300 by next year.

The expansion represents a significant step in Mallcom's long-term growth strategy as it looks to increase domestic production capacity and meet rising demand for industrial safety products.

Focus on advanced production capabilities

The Sanand plant houses multiple manufacturing lines, including NBR and PU glove dipping units, injection moulding machines and glove printing facilities. It also produces safety helmets and bump caps.

Among the latest additions is an NBR dipping line equipped with online printing and stripping technology. The company has also localised the production of its Protech PU gloves, which were previously sourced from overseas suppliers.

While Mallcom continues to import certain raw materials from countries such as China, Italy, Sri Lanka, Brazil and the Netherlands, the company said it remains focused on increasing localisation across its product range.

Reducing dependence on imported safety gear

A key feature of the new facility is what Mallcom describes as India's first Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) unit dedicated to Protech PU gloves.

The company said the unit has been established to serve the growing industrial safety market while reducing dependence on imported PU gloves, a segment that has traditionally been dominated by manufacturers from China and other Asian countries.

The move aligns with broader efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities and build a more resilient supply chain for industrial safety products.

Company sees plant as foundation for future growth

Executive Director Giriraj Mall said the Sanand facility reflects the company's commitment to building globally competitive manufacturing operations in India. He added that ongoing investments are designed to support innovation, sustainability and the development of indigenous production capabilities.

Associate Vice President Rohit Mall said the plant's advanced technologies and expanded production capacity would help the company respond to evolving industry requirements while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

Mallcom expects the facility to play a central role in its future manufacturing strategy, supporting capacity expansion, product development and greater localisation. The investment also broadens the company's presence beyond its established manufacturing bases in West Bengal and Uttarakhand.
