The prime minister’s office said the inspiration behind the expressway is the prime minister’s vision to provide fast-paced connectivity across India.
The expressway, measuring 594 kilometers (369 miles) in length, will be cost more than Rs 36,200 crore (£3.5 billion).

The road will begin near Bijauli village in Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh and terminate near Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj in south-eastern Uttar Pradesh. It will connect places like Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh with the terminal points.

Upon completion, the Ganga Expressway will become the longest expressway in the state, India’s most populous, connecting its western and eastern regions.

Besides, a three-and-half-kilometer long air-strip for assisting emergency take-off and landing of Indian Air Force planes will also be made on the expressway in Shahjahanpur, Asian News International reported.

An industrial corridor is also proposed to be built along the expressway.

The Ganga Expressway, which was approved on November 26, 2020, is expected to boost several sectors, including industrial development, trade, agriculture, tourism, etc. It is also likely to help in the region’s socio-economic development. The expressway will be completed by 2024, the year India goes to its next general elections.
