INDIAN prime minister Narendra Modi has been found to be regularly encouraging his country’s participants at the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo. On Tuesday (3), he praised the Indian men’s hockey team after it lost to Belgium in the semi-final which they made after a gap of 49 years. He told them that wins and losses are part of life and that India is proud of its players. He also spoke with the Indian sportspersons on July 13 before their departure for the mega event in Japan, encouraging them to return with their heads held high.

It has now been reported that Modi has planned a surprise for the Indian Olympians. If sources are to be believed, Modi will invite the entire Indian Olympic contingent to the Red Fort as special guests on the upcoming Independence Day on August 15. Modi will give his traditional address at the historical monument, something successive Indian prime ministers have been doing since the country got its independence in 1947. This year, India will observe its 75th Independence Day.

It has been learned that Modi will also personally meet the players.

PM Modi has also said in a tweet that India today is seeing a rising level of self-confidence and glimpses of that are being seen at the Tokyo Games.

India have so far achieved two medals – a silver in weightlifting and a bronze in badminton. Another medal has also been assured in boxing while the country is looking forward to a couple of medals more in hockey – in the men’s and women’s categories.
