At least 10 people were injured after powerful tornadoes moved through northern Oklahoma on Thursday. The storms caused major damage in several areas, especially in Enid, located in Garfield County. Officials confirmed that no fatalities have been reported as of Friday morning (24).


The injuries were reported in the Gray Ridge neighborhood in Enid. According to the Garfield County emergency manager, the injuries were minor. No injuries were reported in Braman or Newkirk, where a tornado also touched down earlier in the day.

After the tornadoes hit Thursday night, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office launched search and rescue operations. Deputies worked to locate and help people who were trapped under debris in affected areas.

Enid Mayor David Mason said that some residents have already been rescued. Officials are still working to assess the full extent of injuries and damage caused by the storms.

Emergency officials reported that about 40 homes in Enid were damaged after a large tornado moved through the city. Some homes were completely destroyed, especially in neighborhoods near Vance Air Force Base.

Initial observations from aerial footage suggest that the tornado may have been very strong, possibly an EF-4 or EF-5. However, the National Weather Service will confirm the official rating after a full survey.

In other parts of northern Oklahoma, damage was also reported. Kay County officials said barns were destroyed and power outages affected areas like Blackwell and Braman. Minor wind damage and road flooding were reported in Newkirk.

Pawnee County also experienced flooding, particularly along Highway 18.

Vance Air Force Base in Enid was directly impacted by the tornado and is currently closed. Only essential personnel are allowed on base while crews work to restore power and water.

Officials confirmed that all personnel at the base have been accounted for, and no injuries were reported there. Damage assessments are ongoing as crews check facilities and infrastructure.
