Indian prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (11) celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan with young girls at his residence in New Delhi. Among the girls who tied ‘rakhi‘ (a talisman or amulet bracelet) onto the prime minister’s right wrist were daughters of subordinate staff members working at the prime minister’s office (PMO), including sweepers, drivers, peons, and others.
On the day of Raksha Bandhan, sisters of all ages tie the ‘rakhi’ onto the wrists of their brothers, protecting them symbolically.
The PMO later shared a video that showed the girls tying colourful rakhis onto Modi’s wrist and seeking his blessings. The girls were found to be ecstatic as they met the prime minister.
Modi also shared pictures from the occasion on Twitter in which he said, “A very special Raksha Bandhan with these youngsters…”
