Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana is already one of India's most anticipated movies, and the upcoming mythological epic continues to make headlines before its release. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, the two-part film has reportedly signed a record-breaking music rights agreement with T-Series.
According to reports, T-Series acquired the all-language music rights for both Ramayana: Part One and Part Two for about $87 million. The deal is said to be the biggest music rights agreement ever for a Hindi-language film.
The previous record reportedly belonged to Dhurandhar: The Revenge, whose music rights were sold to T-Series for around $63 million.
A source close to T-Series said the agreement covers both installments of the franchise. The reported $87 million is structured as a refundable advance payment.
Reports also say there was strong competition between T-Series and Sony Music. Sony reportedly increased its offer to approximately $81 million, but T-Series ultimately secured the rights. An official announcement is expected soon.
The music for Ramayana is being created exclusively for the film by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Oscar-winning Indian composer A.R. Rahman. Rather than using existing songs or previously released music, the duo is composing an original soundtrack, including the background score and songs, inspired by the ancient Indian epic.
The score is expected to combine grand orchestral arrangements with Indian classical and devotional musical traditions, using both traditional Indian instruments and modern cinematic composition to match the scale and emotion of the two-part film.
The film's first trailer is scheduled for a digital launch on July 30 at 4:15 a.m. It will also be shown in theaters alongside Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Brand New Day, giving audiences an early look at the ambitious production.
Ramayana is scheduled to open in theaters during the Diwali holiday season in 2026.
The film features an extensive ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor and Yash lead the project, joined by Sunny Deol, Sai Pallavi, Rakul Preet, Kajal Aggarwal, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan, Lara Dutta, Sonal Jha, Seeba Chaddha, Ravi Dubey, Adinath Kothare, Nitish Bharadwaj, Shishir Sharma, Ajinkya Deo, Mukesh Tiwari, Kunal Kapoor, Shobana, Vivek Oberoi, Harish Uthaman, Faisal Malik, Saurabh Sachdeva, Kanchan, Parminder, and several others in key roles.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is also one of the most expensive film projects ever produced in India. Reports estimate the first installment carries a budget of approximately $1.63 billion to $1.74 billion, with a similar investment planned for Part Two. That would bring the combined production cost for both films to nearly $3.5 billion, underscoring the enormous ambition behind the cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic.
