THE MOVE to make a sequel to the 2008 hit “Singh Is Kinng” is now caught in a legal row after producer Shailendra Singh recently shared plans to cast a new lead, Ranveer Singh or Diljit Dosanjh, in place of Akshay Kumar.
The first version was directed by Anees Bazmee and apart from Akshay Kumar it also featured Katrina Kaif, Om Puri and Kirron Kher among others.
However, a recent report clarifies that Akshay Kumar’s involvement or approval is essential for any sequel, as he owns 50 per cent of the film’s rights.
Media reports claim Akshay and his team are in no mood to part ways with the rights of Singh Is Kinng.
Akshay’s legal team also confirmed his ownership and refuted Singh's claims.
An official statement clarified, “Akshay Kumar is the co-owner of the film, 'Singh Is Kinng' and all the rights, title, interest, etc. of the film. Any assertions, statements, claims, etc., made by Mr. Shailendra Singh…are entirely false and untrue.”
This clarification also highlighted Kumar’s commitment to other popular franchises, including “Jolly LLB”, “Welcome”, “Housefull”, and “Bhagam Bhag”.
