US faced its first year of decline in tourism since the Covid-19 pandemic as the number of foreign visitors fell by millions in 2025.
Four million fewer foreign visitors entered the US in 2025 compared to 2024, according to data shared by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO), The Independent reported.
US welcomed 68 million visitors in 2025, a stark drop as compared to 72 million visitors in 2024.
This is the opposite of what the NTTO had forecasted. The body had predicted an increase in tourism numbers, with foreign visitors reaching 72 million, up 4.7 million year on year.
In reality, the US saw 4,009,072 fewer arrivals in the 12 months ending 2025.
During the same period, total tourist spending in the US reduced by $8.4 billion year on year, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), as per CNN.
This marks the first year of decline in foreign visitor numbers to the US since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The nation is yet to meet its pre-Covid levels of visitors, which was over 79 million. After taking a hit during the pandemic, the visitor numbers were on a steady rise, until last year.
