SOME of India’s frontline cricketers have gone for a long vacation following a shattering defeat against Australia in the final of the 50-over World Cup held this month at home and they include the likes of Virat Kohli.

The 35-year-old ace batter was seen holidaying with his wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika in the UK and videos went viral on social media showing them.

Kohli had a dream run with the bat in the tournament in which he amassed 765 runs to end up as the player of the tournament and also bettered compatriot Sachin Tendulkar’s record by hitting the 50th ton in the 50-over format. However, the former India captain was seen shattered along with his colleagues after India lost the final in Ahmedabad on November 19 after winning 10 consecutive matches. He was seen hugging his wife, who was present at the venue, after the match got over.

Meanwhile, at home, India were playing Australia in a T20 series and were 2-1 up at the moment. The team was led by Suryakumar Yadav and featured mostly youngsters.

India’s next big assignment is a tour of South Africa starting next month where they will play matches across all three formats. According to sources, the veteran batter has opted against playing the three T20s and as many one-day international games in that tour and wanted to focus only on the Tests.

Kohli has not played a T20 match after the World Cup in Australia in 2022 but his decision to skip the 50-over format came as a surprise to many.

Rohit Sharma, who brilliantly led India in the final of the World Cup against Australia, was also uncertain for the one-day internationals and is expected to give the T20 series a miss.

The first of the two Tests against South Africa begins at Centurion on Boxing Day.
