Why Aamir Khan chose to marry Gauri Spratt after saying 'at 60, marriage may not suit me'

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan and partner Gauri Spratt attend the celebration marking 25 years of his production house in Mumbai on June 13, 2026.

Aamir Khan is set to marry his partner, Gauri Spratt, on Sunday (5) in an intimate ceremony at his Mumbai home. The wedding will be a simple registered marriage attended by close family members and friends. The actor had earlier said, "At 60, getting married may not suit me," making his decision to marry now a topic of discussion.

The ceremony is expected to take place at Aamir's Bandra residence during the first half of the day. Reports suggest the guest list has been intentionally kept small, with around 150 people invited. Several relatives traveling from overseas are also expected to attend.

Speaking to the media during the screening of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's Pritam and Pedro, Aamir shared details of the celebration.

He said, "Shaadi hai 5 July ko. Ghar pe hi kar rahe hai. Bahut hi choti shaadi hai. Bahut hi khaas din hai 5 tarikh hamare liye. Dono families hai aur kuch khaas dost hai," (the wedding is on 5 July, a very small wedding, but this date is very special for us)

He also added, "Ghar pe hi kar rahe hai. Aap sabhi ki dua chahiye bas ki hum khush rahe aur prarthana karenge ki achha safar rahe. Bahut hi gharelu hai," (we are getting married at our home, just require your blessings, and may the journey be smooth).

According to reports, the couple's children from their previous relationships will also be part of the celebrations. Aamir's children, Junaid, Ira, and Azad, are expected to attend, while Gauri's son is also likely to be present. The actor has asked fans and the media to bless the couple as they begin a new chapter together.

The wedding comes after Aamir spent more than two years in a relationship with Gauri. He introduced her publicly during his 60th birthday celebrations in March 2025.

At the time, Aamir appeared uncertain about marrying again. He said, "We are fully committed. I have been married twice. At 60, getting married may not suit me." He also made it clear that there were no immediate plans for a third marriage.

A few months later, however, he spoke about the depth of their relationship and explained that marriage was not what defined their bond. He said, "In my heart, I'm already married to her. Whether we formalise it or not is something we'll decide as we go along."

Although Aamir never publicly explained why he later decided to marry, he has said that he and Gauri wanted a simple registered ceremony. He has also called her a "blessing" and said he feels peaceful and happy with her. The actor has repeatedly emphasized that their relationship came before the decision to formalize it through marriage.

Gauri Spratt is originally from Bengaluru and is the daughter of Rita Spratt, who owned a salon in the city. She studied at Blue Mountain School and later completed an FDA Styling & Photography course at the University of the Arts London in 2004. According to her LinkedIn profile, she currently runs a BBlunt salon in Mumbai. She is also the mother of a young son from a previous relationship.

Before Gauri, Aamir was married twice. He married his childhood sweetheart, Reena Dutta, in 1986. They have two children, Junaid and Ira, before ending their marriage in 2002. Aamir has described the divorce as one of the most painful periods of his life and has denied that anyone else was involved, saying "there was no one in my life."

In 2005, Aamir married filmmaker Kiran Rao, whom he met during the making of Lagaan. The couple announced their separation in 2021, saying they wanted to begin "a new chapter" as co-parents and family. Aamir later said, "Our relationship of husband and wife experienced a certain change." They continue to co-parent their son, Azad, and have maintained a close friendship after their divorce.

As Aamir prepares for his third marriage, his own words suggest that while his views on commitment have remained consistent, he ultimately chose to formally celebrate that commitment with Gauri Spratt.
