Drishyam: The Conclusion

Drishyam: The Conclusion will release on October 2nd.

Highlights:

  • Ajay Devgn says the new film beats Drishyam 2.
  • Devgn seeks Mohanlal’s approval for the original story.
  • The Hindi film takes a different path from Malayalam Drishyam 3.
  • Advance bookings reportedly cross $2.8 million.
  • Drishyam: The Conclusion releases Friday (2).

  • Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is bringing a new twist to the Drishyam franchise with Drishyam: The Conclusion, giving his character, Vijay Salgaonkar, a story that takes a different direction from Mohanlal’s Malayalam version. With the film set to hit theaters on Friday (2), Devgn has already watched the final cut and believes it surpasses the second installment.

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam: The Conclusion is among the most anticipated Indian films of the year. The movie features Devgn alongside Tabu, Shriya Saran and Jaideep Ahlawat in key roles.

Speaking during a panel discussion at FICCI Frames 2026 in Mumbai, Devgn revealed that he had watched the film on Tuesday (29) and was impressed by what he saw.

"The way the script has shaped up, and the film has shaped up, I think we should put a stop right now. I saw the film yesterday (Tuesday), and my personal opinion is that it beats 2. So, fingers crossed!" he said.

His comment has added to the excitement around the movie, especially among fans who have followed Vijay Salgaonkar's story through the first two Hindi installments.

Not a remake of Malayalam film

The first two Hindi Drishyam movies were remakes of the Malayalam films starring Mohanlal as Georgekutty. The new installment, however, is taking a different route. Instead of adapting the Malayalam film Drishyam 3, directed by Jeethu Joseph, the Hindi version tells an original story.

The Malayalam Drishyam 3 was released on May 21, 2026, and earned approximately $25.3 million worldwide, according to Sacnilk, based on the reported box-office collection of $24.7 million.

Devgn had previously confirmed at the film's trailer launch in Goa that the Hindi movie's script was completely different from its Malayalam counterpart. That creative shift is also why he wanted Mohanlal to watch the film before its release.

    Why Devgn called Mohanlal

At FICCI Frames, Devgn explained that he had personally contacted Mohanlal because he wanted the veteran actor to see the new film. For Devgn, the approval of the person who originated the character would carry special meaning.

"I called up Lal sir because I wanted him to see the film. This time we have diverted completely. For me I thought a kind of an approval from him would be nice, so I wanted him to see the film. He is on a holiday. He was very sweet, then we kept interacting. So, I think he is going to watch the film over there.
