A film that left a mark at home

While promoting his upcoming film Bhooth Bangla in Delhi, Akshay Kumar opened up about the unexpected impact of his earlier film Bhool Bhulaiyaa on his family.

He revealed that his son Aarav was deeply affected after watching the 2007 release, especially by Vidya Balan’s portrayal of Manjulika.

Fear that stayed for years

According to Kumar, the fear did not fade quickly. He said Aarav avoided interacting with Balan whenever she visited their home and would not even look her in the eye.

Kumar added that his son continued to associate the actor with her on-screen character, despite repeated reassurance. He had to explain multiple times that she was not Manjulika, but Vidya Balan herself.

Two films, two different approaches

Speaking about Bhooth Bangla, Kumar highlighted how it stands apart from Bhool Bhulaiyaa. He described the earlier film as a psychological thriller, where the mystery is eventually explained through a mental health angle.

In contrast, he said Bhooth Bangla leans more into fantasy, with a defined supernatural element and a tone that is more accessible for younger viewers.

A reunion with Priyadarshan

Bhooth Bangla also marks Kumar’s return to working with director Priyadarshan, their first collaboration since Khatta Meetha in 2010.

The film features an ensemble cast including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, and the late Asrani. Backed by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with Cape of Good Films, it is set to release in theaters on April 16.
