"Don't take away the story from the storyteller." With this powerful message, social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as The Rebel Kid, made her much-anticipated return to Instagram after a controversial fallout linked to her appearance on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent. Her comeback post addressed the intense backlash and the flood of abuse she faced online, including numerous rape threats and violent messages.
On Tuesday (8), Apoorva posted multiple screenshots showing the kind of graphic threats she has received since the controversy broke out. Her caption, “And that’s not even 1%,” revealed the extent of the online harassment. She prefaced her post with a trigger warning, acknowledging the disturbing nature of the content. The screenshots included threats of acid attacks, rape, and murder, shared by trolls targeting her across social media platforms.
In another striking post, Apoorva simply wrote, “Don’t take away the story from the storyteller.” The line was left without a caption, but the message resonated deeply with her followers, many of whom flooded the comments section with supportive messages. One fan wrote, “We don’t deserve the story, but you deserve the love,” while another said, “My queen, you absolutely got this. You are such a strong girl!!”
Another user commented, “Imagine trolling a woman for taking a stand for herself.” Others noted how her silence had been misinterpreted as weakness, with messages like, “They wanted you quiet. It’s time that you give them a big Roar!”
Apoorva’s reappearance comes after a complete wipeout of her Instagram page, where she had previously deleted all her posts and unfollowed everyone. The influencer, who boasts over three million followers, had remained silent for weeks amid public scrutiny following the controversy surrounding the show.
The backlash began when Apoorva appeared as a guest on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent in February 2025. The episode also featured YouTuber and influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, who made crude remarks involving parents and sex. The segment sparked massive outrage online, with many accusing the creators and guests—including Apoorva—of encouraging offensive and inappropriate commentary.
Following the public outcry, multiple complaints were filed in Mumbai against Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and Apoorva Mukhija. The National Commission for Women (NCW) intervened and issued summons over the derogatory remarks made during the episode. Apoorva subsequently appeared before the Mumbai police for questioning related to the case.
Despite the online attacks and ongoing controversy, Apoorva’s latest posts signal her intent to reclaim her voice and platform. Her fans have lauded her for confronting the abuse and speaking out after weeks of silence. With her bold message and visual documentation of the threats, The Rebel Kid is making it clear that she won’t be silenced—reminding everyone that no one should take away the story from its rightful storyteller.
