THE RACE for the title of “Most Followed Artist on Spotify” has been tightly contested between Indian singer Arijit Singh and American artist Taylor Swift.
Singh has now claimed the lead with 117.2 million followers, edging out Swift, who has 117.18 million followers. However, Swift maintains a lead in terms of monthly listeners.
This is not the first time Singh has briefly held the top position. In August 2023, he surpassed Swift temporarily, but Swift soon reclaimed the lead.
Singh made headlines by becoming the first Indian music artiste to surpass 100 million followers on the platform.
The current rankings show Ed Sheeran in third place with 115.01 million followers, while Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are in fourth and fifth places with 98 million and 96 million followers, respectively.
Swift’s eleventh studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, was released in April 2024. The accompanying music video for "Fortnight" has earned her 10 nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
Meanwhile, Singh’s latest contributions include Pritam’s songs for the film Chandu Champion, which was released in June 2024.
