  • For many actors, a blockbuster success is an opportunity to sign multiple films, negotiate bigger paychecks and capitalize on their newfound box-office momentum. Shraddha Kapoor, however, chose a different path after the success of Stree 2. The Bollywood star revealed that she turned down several film offers, including projects that came with substantial financial incentives, because she wanted to wait for the right story.

During an Instagram Q&A session on Tuesday (3), a fan asked Shraddha for advice for young women navigating their careers. Rather than offering a general motivational message, the actor shared a personal decision that she now considers one of the most rewarding choices of her professional life.

"I would share about myself. After Stree 2, I was offered a lot of films and money as well, but I had decided that until I get that perfect story, I won't sign anything. My heart said that I will have to keep that patience, and I did that."

She acknowledged that waiting for the right opportunity was not always easy, particularly when attractive offers were coming her way. But she said staying true to her instincts eventually made her feel confident about the decision.

"Of course it gets difficult to wait for something you really want, but right now I feel proud that I took the decision to wait. So I would say listen to that voice in your heart; sometimes it becomes difficult, but it's totally worth it."

Her comments offer a glimpse into how she approached the period following one of the biggest commercial successes of her career. Instead of rushing into another project to maintain her momentum, Shraddha prioritized the story and the character she wanted to bring to the screen.

How Stree 2 changed Shraddha Kapoor's career

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 featured Shraddha alongside Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee. The horror-comedy became one of India's biggest box-office successes of 2024, building on the popularity of the Maddock Films supernatural comedy universe.

The film opened with approximately Rs 55 crore, including paid previews, and went on to collect Rs 857 crore worldwide. Akshay Kumar's surprise appearance also became a major talking point among audiences.

Its success placed Shraddha in a strong position commercially, making her decision to wait for a suitable script particularly noteworthy.

What is Shraddha Kapoor's next film, Eetha?

The actor is now preparing for her next release, Eetha, directed by Laxman Utekar and co-produced by him alongside Dinesh Vijan and Karishma Sharma.

Shraddha plays Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a celebrated Lavani performer. The film draws inspiration from incidents documented in the Marathi book Tamasha: Vithabaichya Ayushyacha.

The cast also includes Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Siddharth Jadhav, Ishtiyak Khan and Anant Joshi.

Speaking about the role, Shraddha said, "It’s a story about a woman whose art, courage and individuality make her unforgettable. The more Laxman sir told me about the character, the more I felt connected to her world. Playing this role has been an incredibly exciting experience, and I am thrilled for audiences to discover her journey on the big screen. This is also my grand reunion with Maddock Films after we made magic with Stree and Stree 2, which is thrilling to say the least. The entire team has put in so much hard work, and I cannot wait for audiences to experience the world of Eetha.”

With Eetha, Shraddha returns to Maddock Films, the production house behind the Stree franchise. Her decision to wait for a story she genuinely connected with now appears to have led her toward a role rooted in art, courage and individuality.
