BATTLING British prime minister Boris Johnson had told Tory parliamentarians that he would repeat the behaviour which has been outlined in Sue Gray’s report into the series of lockdown-violating parties held in Downing Street.

Facing a serious challenge over his handling of the Partygate accusations and his insistence that no rule was broken, Johnson said, “I’d do it again.”

Delivering a speech to Tory members of parliament to rally their support ahead of the confidence vote on Monday (6) evening, the Conservative leader also told the 1922 Committee that the best of his leadership was “yet to come”, The Independent reported.

One of Johnson’s critics told The Independent that while the mood in the meeting seemed generally supportive, he also cautioned: “It’s difficult to know how much that means. People will thump tables and applaud and cheer and then go out and vote against him.”

The meeting comes after Graham Brady announced that the required number of 54 letters had been reached to trigger the vote, which he said would go ahead from 6pm to 8pm local time.
