For tennis lovers, French Open 2023 is set to be a special edition as two of sport’s modern greats will compete there with a goal of going ahead of the other in terms of Grand Slam tallies. Both Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have 22 titles under their belt now and a possible clash between them at Roland Garros could determine who is the greatest of all time (GOAT).

Former German tennis player Boris Becker recently said in an interview with Tennis Majors that the current times are interesting as there is “arguably the greatest of all time taking all the titles away from everybody else”.

“There was a time where each of these players had 20 majors, which is unheard of. To have one is maybe possible, but three impossible. Now Federer has retired, Nadal is possibly on one leg at the moment, Djokovic is also 35,” the 55-year-old said.

Swiss great Roger Federer, one of the most celebrated trio the game has seen, retired last year with a tally of 20 Grand Slams.

Becker, who won Wimbledon at the age of 17 in 1985, said a title round between Nadal and Djokovic at the upcoming French Open could play a big role in swaying the decisions of fans on who is the GOAT in tennis.

“Both have 22 majors, the French Open is coming up…,”Becker was quoted as saying.

“It would be interesting to see a final between Nadal and Djokovic to decide ultimately who has the most grand slams of all time, so stay tuned.”

The 36-year-old Nadal, who is ranked 14th at the moment, has a record 14 French Open titles as against two for 35-year-old Djokovic, who is currently ranked No.1.
