A week after his arrest outside a court in Islamabad and a protest by his supporters that erupted across the country, Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday (17) claimed that police officers surrounded his house in Lahore for yet another arrest.
He also said that he was perhaps tweeting for the last time before his next arrest.

According to a report by Pakistan daily Dawn, personnel of Punjab Police reached outside Khan's Zaman Park residence to arrest him. It also said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader's residence has been cordoned off by the law-keepers.
In a video address, Khan, 70, said, “I am afraid today that Pakistan is on the route to destruction. And I fear that if wisdom is not exercised today, we might reach a stage where we wouldn’t even be able to pick up the pieces."

The development took place hours after Amir Mir, a spokesperson for the provincial government of Punjab, said the former prime minister had a day to hand over 40 suspects allegedly hiding at his home or else a police raid would be held at his place. He also said in a news conference that 3,400 suspects have been arrested so far and more raids were due to take place.

Authorities in Pakistan on Wednesday pressed on with efforts to try people involved in the recent violence that took place before military courts despite appeals made by a leading international rights body and a watchdog in the country.
Khan's supporters set fire to buildings and vehicles following his arrest on May 9 and also launched attacks on police and military officers and establishments. Ten people were killed in the violence and 4,000 people were apprehended.
The Supreme Court later ordered Khan's release but came under criticism from the opponents, including prime minister Shehbaz Sharif who accused the courts of being biased towards Khan.
On Tuesday (16), a high court in Pakistan extended bail of Khan in two cases pertaining to inciting violence and sedition till June 8.
