Heeraben Modi, the mother of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, was on Tuesday (27) night hospitalised in Ahmedabad in the western state of Gujarat after her health condition deteriorated.
On Wednesday (28), a statement was issued from UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre where Heeraben is admitted saying that her condition was stable. The hospital did not share any other information related to the health condition of Heeraben, who turned 99 in June this year.
"UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre, Ahmedabad hospital's spokesperson hereby informing that Hon'ble Prime Minister's Mother is admitted at UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre, Ahmedabad & her health condition is stable," a press note by the hospital said.
Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, who was sworn to the post for the second successive time earlier this month following the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) emphatic win in the state elections, visited the hospital to see Heeraben. The state's health minister also went to the hospital along with some BJP legislators.
The 72-year-old Modi, who has often spoken of his bond with his mother, visited her while campaigning for the Gujarat elections. She was also seen casting her vote during the elections. PM Modi's pictures with Heeraben have surfaced on social media on a number of occasions.
The prime minister also visited his mother on her 100th birthday in June and to mark her centenary, he had also penned an emotional blog named 'Mother'.
The news of Heeraben's admission to hospital came shortly after Prahlad Modi, the younger brother of PM Modi, met with an accident with his family members while travelling in Mysuru in the southern state of Karnataka.
