IT is very difficult to fool eagle-eyed netizens and the same was proved once again on Thursday (14) when former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi revealed on Twitter that he is dating model-turned-actor Sushmita Sen. The news spread like wildfire even though the 56-year-old, who lives in the UK now, clarified in another tweet that they were not married and just dating at the moment but hoped that the marriage would also happen one day.

The curious minds on social media were not satiated. They soon dug out a nine-year-old tweet that Modi had posted mentioning Sen, a former Miss Universe and soon ‘Reply My SMS’ went viral online with memes and jokes pouring in thick and fast.

But why ‘Reply My SMS’?

Rewinding to April 2013, Modi wrote in a tweet, “Okay I commit “@thesushmitasen: @LalitKModi you are too kind. However, promises are meant to be broken, commitments are honoured. Cheers love. Here is to 47.”

To that, Sen replied, “Gotcha 47.”

Modi then said, “Reply my SMS.”

The common man found Modi’s words a great fit for themselves as they too seemed to be waiting for replies to their SMSes. They even started tagging celebrities they admire saying they also wanted them to reply to their messages. While some brought the economy into perspective saying the falling rupee asked the US dollar to reply to its SMS.

Here are some hilarious posts the Twitterati made on ‘Reply My SMS’ once Modi made it famous, retrospectively.
