Ahmedabad is taking center stage in the world of cue sports as the second edition of the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships gets underway, bringing together 144 players from 42 nations for four days of high-level competition.

The championships, which began in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, mark the first time the prestigious multi-discipline event is being hosted in India. The tournament features 72 men and 72 women competing across English Billiards, Snooker, 10-Ball Pool, Heyball and Blackball.

With 10 medal events on the schedule, the competition is expected to provide an exciting showcase of cue sports while giving Indian players the opportunity to compete on home soil against some of the sport's biggest international names.

A Major Moment for Indian Cue Sports

Hosted by the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI), the championships are being held with the endorsement of the World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) and Commonwealth Sport.

The event is also a major part of BSFI's centenary celebrations, adding another layer of significance to an already important occasion for Indian cue sports.

WCBS Vice President Mubarak Al-Khayarin welcomed the decision to bring the championships to Ahmedabad.

"The Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships represent an important occasion for the sport, and we are delighted to see this year's edition take place in Ahmedabad."

The tournament's arrival in India highlights the country's growing presence in international cue sports and gives fans an opportunity to watch multiple disciplines and some of the world's leading players in one competition.

India Brings Strong Medal Hopes

India enters the championships with confidence following an impressive showing at the inaugural edition in Mauritius in 2025, where the country collected five medals.

The Indian challenge is led by several accomplished players, including defending Commonwealth Women's Heyball champion Vidya Pillai. Her return to the competition will be closely watched as she attempts to defend the title on home soil.

Men's Heyball silver medalist Shivam Arora and Women's 10-Ball Pool silver medalist Chitra Magimairaj are also among the key Indian contenders.

With a home crowd behind them, India's players will have the opportunity to build on last year's success and add to the country's medal tally.

World-Class Competition Arrives in Ahmedabad

The Indian contingent will face a strong international field featuring defending champions and established performers from across the Commonwealth.

England's Kelly Fisher, South Africa's Craig Bouwer, Malaysia's Lim Kok Leong, England's Rebecca Kenna and Wales' Darren Morgan are among the international names expected to add significant competition to the event.

Their presence ensures that India's medal ambitions will face a serious test, while also giving local fans the chance to watch elite cue sports talent from around the world.

Four Days of Cue Sports Action

The four-day championships bring together five disciplines under one international event, creating a packed schedule of competition and giving both players and spectators a broad look at the different forms of cue sports.

For India, however, the occasion represents more than simply another tournament. Hosting the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships for the first time is a milestone for the country's cue sports community and a fitting highlight for BSFI's 100th anniversary celebrations.

With a strong Indian contingent, international champions in the field and 10 medals up for grabs, Ahmedabad is set to become the focus of Commonwealth cue sports for the duration of the championships.
