Lekhi signs deal with Portugal for Indians’ recruitment

INDIA’S minister of state for external affairs and culture Meenakshi Lekhi on Monday (13) met Portugal’s secretary of state for external affairs and cooperation Francisco Andre and signed an agreement on labour mobility facilitating recruitment of Indian citizens to work in the European country.

“Delighted to sign an agreement between India and Portugal on Labour Mobility facilitating recruitment of Indian citizens to work in Portugal,” Lekhi, who took over in July, said on Twitter.

Lekhi and Andre spoke on a complete range of bilateral relations focusing on areas of mutual interest like science and technology, information technology, migration and mobility and trade.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also met Augusto Santos Silva, the Portuguese minister of foreign affairs, and Eurico Brilhante Dias, secretary of state for internationalisation, to discuss matters of mutual interest.

Lekhi is on a visit to Portugal and Spain between September 12 and 17, the ministry of external affairs said in a statement.

The Indian minister, who was in New York ahead of the European tour, was also set to inaugurate ‘The Beatles and India’ exhibition at Casa de la India, Valladolid, Spain and deliver a talk on India’s Development Cooperation at the Spain India Council Foundation. She was set to reach Spain on Wednesday (15).
