RISHABH PANT will captain Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021 in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who was ruled out of the season after injuring his left shoulder during India's one-day international series against England.
Iyer sustained the injury while fielding and India's cricket board BCCI said he had partially dislocated his shoulder.
"Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming season following his injury. Rishabh Pant will lead the team in his absence," the Delhi franchise's statement said.
"Shreyas will be missed immensely, and we can't wait to see him in DC colours once again. We wish him a speedy recovery."
The wicketkeeper-batsman has impressed everyone in the recent months starting from the Australia Test series, where he played a few crucial knocks. He has had made a mark in limited-overs cricket too including the recently concluded home series against England.
The IPL begins on April 9, with the Capitals starting their campaign the following day against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai.
