Ambani pips Adani to become richest Asian. Who else are in top 10 billionaire list?

RELIANCE Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani has reclaimed the tag of wealthiest Asian, eclipsing fellow countryman Gautam Adani, the latest ranking by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index has said.

While Ambani’s net worth was reported at $99.7 billion (£79.6 billion), Adani’s net worth slipped to $98.7 billion (£78.8 billion) after a significant slide in the valuation of shares of his group companies in the recent weeks, reports said.

Overall, Ambani was placed at the eighth position, one better than Adani who was at four only a few weeks ago. The list of top 10 includes seven Americans, two Indians and one French.

The index, which tracks each billionaire’s net worth, said that Ambani’s wealth went up by $3.59 billion (£2.86 billion) while Adani’s fortune got better by $2.96 billion (£2.36 billion).

Elon Musk leads the list

The top four positions were held by Tesla chief Elon Musk with a wealth of $227 billion (£181 billion), Amazon’s Jeff Bezos with $149 billion (£119 billion), LVMH’s Bernard Arnault with $138 billion (£110 billion) and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates with $124 billion (£99 billion). Veteran investor Warren Buffet was at five with a net worth of $114 billion (£91 billion).

Internet entrepreneurs Larry Page was ranked at six with a net worth of $106 billion (£84.7 billion) and Sergey Brin was at No.7 with $102 billion (£81.5 billion).

Business magnate and investor Steve Ballmer completed the top 10 with a net worth of $96.8 billion (£77.3 billion).

Among other Indians who are in the index that listed 500 wealthiest people on earth are Azim Premiji, Shiv Nadar, Lakshmi Mittal, Radhakishan Damani, Uday Kotak, Dilip Shanghvi, Cyrus Poonawalla, Savitri Jindal, Sunil Mittal, Kumar Birla, Nusli Wadia, KP Singh, Ashwin Dani and family, Benu Bangur, Tery Gou and Vikram Lal.
