Rivaba Jadeja, wife of India cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, has secured a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket to contest the upcoming state elections in the western state of Gujarat in December.

Rivaba, 32, joined the BJP, the state’s ruling party in 2019. She tied knot with Ravindra Jadeja in April 2016 and the duo have a daughter. Originally called Riva Solanki, Rivaba was born in Rajkot and is a graduate in mechanical engineering.

Months before she joined the BJP which she said she did after getting inspired by prime minister Narendra Modi, Rivaba joined Rajasthan-based right-wing outfit Karni Sena, which made the headlines for its vociferous protests against director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmaavat’, which was released in January 2018.

She was appointed the chief of the women’s wing of outfit in Gujarat.

On Thursday, the BJP came up with the first list of candidates for the two-phase assembly elections in Gujarat scheduled on December 1 and 5.

The results are due on December 8 along with that of the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, also a BJP-ruled one.

The BJP’s list comprised 100 names and it was announced by the country’s environment minister Bhupendra Yadav.

Gujarat’s chief minister Bhupendra Patel will contest from Ghatlodia constituency, which he has been representing in the state assembly since 2017.

Former chief minister Vijay Rupani and senior party leader Bhupendrasinh Chudasama will not contest the elections.

The BJP has been in power in the state for more than two decades now.
