Why Adelaide Cottage may not suit Catherine’s recovery from cancer

During her recovery, the royal member will be at her four-bedroom residence, where she resides with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, aged 10, eight and five.

CATHERINE, the princess of Wales, will be recuperating at her home, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park, as she receives treatment for cancer.

The 42-year-old member of the royal family has revealed that she is undergoing preventive chemotherapy after cancer was detected following her abdominal surgery in January.

During her recovery, she will be at her four-bedroom royal residence, where she resides with her husband, Prince William, aged 42, and their three children: Prince George, aged 10, Princess Charlotte, aged eight, and Prince Louis, aged five.

However, according to a royal expert, the Grade II listed property, which was built in 1831 for William IV’s wife Queen Adelaide, might not be the most suitable option for Catherine due to its chilly interior, the Daily Mail reported.

Former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole, speaking to GB News, remarked that the family home was “absolutely not an ideal place” for recovery from a surgery. He referenced a description of the property previously penned by Rosemary Townsend.

“She wrote in her memoir that it was the coldest place she’d ever encountered in the whole of her life. So maybe not the best place to start feeling better, particularly in this quite cold winter that we’re enjoying at the moment.”
The Wales family transitioned in the summer of 2022 from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage, located within Windsor Great Park.

Their decision stemmed from a desire for a place that necessitated zero renovation or additional security measures, the report added.

Furthermore, the family deemed four bedrooms adequate, as they do not employ live-in staff. Aides commute to the property as required for their services.

Situated in the middle of the Crown Estate’s private 655-acre royal park, Adelaide Cottage was constructed as a retreat for Queen Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.

It was also a favoured residence of Queen Victoria, who frequently indulged in breakfasts there.

The cottage saw substantial renovations in 2015, which meant Prince William and Catherine did not have to invest millions for the same purpose.

Sources said that the late Queen Elizabeth II had offered the property to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as a gift after their marriage in 2017 and while the dup allegedly liked it, they eventually moved to the nearby Frogmore Cottage, before leaving the UK altogether.
Millions of supporters and admirers of the royal family were shocked after Catherine revealed the news of her diagnosis in a video message saying it was a ‘huge shock’ and that she and Prince William ‘have been doing everything’ they can to deal with the situation privately for the sake of their young family.
“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok,” she said in her message.
Catherine’s cancer was discovered only after she underwent major abdominal surgery at The London Clinic.
The Kensington Palace has refused to share details of what kind of cancer Catherine has, or what stage the ailment is and urged people not to speculate.
Prime minister Rishi Sunak also expressed his solidarity with the princess saying has ‘the love and support of the whole country’ and also complained that some sections of the media were treating her unfairly as the royal member and her health and relation with her husband has remained under the public scanner for some time now.
