Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are teaming up once again after the Fukrey films, but their latest collaboration comes with a milestone. The married actors will share the screen as a romantic couple for the first time in an untitled situational comedy directed by Shashie Vermaa.
Set in Delhi, the film is expected to begin production in the second half of 2026. Kumud Mishra has also joined the cast in a key role.
Why the script stood out
Speaking about the project, Fazal and Chadha said they were immediately drawn to its organic sense of humor, explaining that the comedy grows naturally from its characters and the world they inhabit rather than relying on conventional gags.
The actors said that quality made the script stand out, adding that the opportunity to finally appear opposite each other as an on-screen couple made the decision even easier.
They also praised Vermaa's writing and direction, saying his vision gives the film a unique voice and that they are looking forward to bringing the story to life together.
A comedy rooted in Delhi
Vermaa described the film as a situational comedy with a strong social message, saying Delhi is more than just the setting and plays an important role in shaping the story.
According to the director, Fazal and Chadha will portray a middle-class couple navigating everyday life in the capital. He said the film aims to balance humor with themes that reflect ordinary experiences and contemporary society.
A reunion after Fukrey
The project marks another collaboration for Fazal and Chadha, who previously appeared together in the Fukrey franchise. Although they shared several scenes in those films, this will be the first time audiences see them paired romantically on screen.
Fukrey Returns, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, was released in 2017. The ensemble cast also featured Priya Anand, Vishakha Singh, and Pankaj Tripathi.
