Musician Amaal Mallik has made a shocking revelation about his personal struggles, announcing that he has been diagnosed with clinical depression and is severing ties with his family. In an emotional Instagram post on Thursday (20), Amaal opened up about the pain he has endured over the years, blaming his parents, Daboo Malik and Jyoti Malik, for creating a divide between him and his brother, singer Armaan Malik.
The celebrated composer, known for his contributions to Bollywood music, expressed deep disappointment with his family’s treatment of him. He stated that despite dedicating himself tirelessly to his career and providing for those around him, he has been constantly undermined.

"I’ve reached a point where I can no longer keep silent about the pain I’ve endured. For years, I’ve been made to feel like I am less, in spite of spending days and nights toiling away to make a safe life for people. I have sacrificed my dreams only to find myself being spoken down to and questioned about my worth. My blood, sweat, and tears have gone into creating each of the 126 melodies that have been released over the last decade,” Amaal wrote.
Reflecting on his journey in the music industry, he acknowledged the success both he and Armaan have achieved. However, he blamed their parents for driving a wedge between them. "While Armaan and I have had a terrific stint in the industry, the actions of my parents have been the reason we, as brothers, have grown distant. Over the years, they have left no opportunity to disturb my well-being, belittle my friendships and relationships, and break my self-confidence. But I kept marching on because I believe I’m unshakable,” he added.
Amaal further revealed that the toll of these experiences has resulted in him being diagnosed with clinical depression. "Today, I stand at a point where I have been robbed of my peace, drained emotionally, and maybe even financially, though that’s the least of my concerns. What truly matters is that I am clinically depressed because of these ongoing struggles. Yes, I have only myself to blame for my actions, but my self-worth has been diminished countless times by the actions of those closest to me, stealing pieces of my soul."
The singer-songwriter announced that, moving forward, he will be cutting all personal ties with his family, ensuring that his interactions with them remain strictly professional. "This isn’t a decision made in anger, but one born out of the necessity to heal and reclaim my life. I refuse to let the past rob me of my future any longer. I am committed to rebuilding my life, piece by piece, with honesty and strength,” he concluded.
Amaal’s revelation has sent shockwaves through the industry, with fans and fellow musicians rallying to support him during this difficult time. His openness about his struggles with mental health also highlights the often-overlooked pressures of the entertainment industry and family expectations.
